From the President’s Desk
Asw. Pamela J. Hunter (NY) – NCOIL President
Welcome to the third installment of my quarterly newsletter column. I hope everyone has been rounding out a great Summer since we were together in Chicago last month for another very successful NCOIL National Meeting. The work we have accomplished this year in continuing to advance the organization and develop important public policy has been very encouraging and I look forward to finishing out the year in a really strong way.
The Summer Meeting was our second consecutive Meeting with over 400 attendees which is a very positive indicator for where NCOIL is heading. So far this year, we’ve had participation from 119 legislators and for 38 of those legislators, it was their first time attending an NCOIL National Meeting. As these numbers illustrate, the growth NCOIL has seen over recent years shows no signs of slowing down and I could not be more thrilled for our future.
Our third and final Meeting of 2025 will be taking place from November 12th – 15th in Atlanta, GA where we are looking forward to building on the momentum created so far this year. The Meeting will kick off with our Fourth Annual NCOIL Open Insurance Legislators Foundation (ILF) Scholarship Golf Outing. The event will be held at noon on November 12th at Heritage Golf Links. As you may know the Scholarship Fund helps legislators attend NCOIL National Meetings and our first three NCOIL Opens have been essential in moving the fund from barely solvent to thriving, and I’m confident this will be another successful event. I encourage you all to participate as the proceeds go towards a great cause of educating state insurance legislators by getting more of them to attend NCOIL Meetings. More information on the Golf Outing can be found here.
I look forward to continuing many of the robust policy discussions we have been having this year at the Annual Meeting. As many of you know, I have made Artificial Intelligence (AI) one of my priorities this year as NCOIL President, and I have been very pleased with the lively conversations we have been having on the topic both in general and specific to the Model Law we are developing on insurers’ use of AI. There certainly was a robust debate surrounding the Model in Chicago, which is usually a good sign that we’re on the right track towards developing something useful.
