FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK By: Representative Matt Lehman (IN)

As the midway point of my NCOIL Presidency has come and gone, I would like to say thank you to all my NCOIL colleagues for making the best of this year so far. We continue to move forward full force and push through all the challenges 2020 throws our way. We’ve been able to remain active, working toward the goals set out for the year while also rolling with the punches of unexpected issues.

Just like most of you, I have been itching to get out and start traveling again, wondering when and if things will ever return to normal. Although we are still far from normal, I’m very excited to be going to Old Town, Virginia for the rescheduled “Summer” Meeting beginning in the next few days. This meeting will be the first ever hybrid NCOIL meeting – allowing for both in-person and virtual participation. I am happy to report that our records show that this meeting is going to be very well attended by both the in-person and virtual participants. Thank you to everyone for their continued dedication to NCOIL.

We were optimistic that the annual NCOIL DC fly-in would remain as-scheduled, but it became clear that it would be best to postpone the fly-in to a later date in the Fall because of continued House and Senate restrictions on in-person meetings. The fly-in will now be fully virtual with NCOIL legislators, Congressmembers and their staff on October 15th.

NCOIL will continue to serve as the only national insurance and financial services legislative policymaking and educational forum during these unprecedented times. I am looking forward to seeing everyone in Alexandria, whether in-person or via Zoom!
