From the President’s Desk

Asm. Ken Cooley (CA), NCOIL President

Welcome to the second installment of my quarterly column: “From the President’s Desk.”

I hope everyone reading this had a great Memorial Day weekend and is as excited as I am awaiting the official start of Summer.

As we prepare for the change in seasons, I am confident that NCOIL’s Summer Meeting will build upon the success of the organization’s Spring Meeting. The Spring Meeting in Las Vegas was a great success. I was particularly pleased to see the especially high legislator attendance considering how many legislatures were in session.

Las Vegas itself was, as usual, a great and one-of-a-kind meeting location. We were honored to have Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford deliver the keynote address. It is always great to hear from a statewide elected official, but especially one who has walked in our shoes and sat where we sit, as General Ford is a former legislator, and has served as both the Majority Leader and the Minority Leader of the Nevada State Senate.

I also want to thank Nevada Assemblywoman Maggie Carlton, Chair of the NCOIL Life Insurance & Financial Planning Committee, for all of her work she did to support NCOIL in its return to the great state of Nevada. Asw. Carlton will unfortunately be leaving the legislature in November due to term limits. On behalf of NCOIL, thank you Asw. Carlton for everything you have done throughout the years to support NCOIL and the state-based system of insurance regulation.
